Arsene Wenger discusses Arsenal's remaining plans in the transfer market after Sunday's loss to Liverpool
Arsene Wenger insisted that Arsenal are continuing to work “very hard” on bringing in new players to The Emirates this summer after their opening-weekend defeat by Liverpool.
Wenger watched his side take the lead against the Reds but then slump to a disappointing 4-3 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s men in north London as they once again started the new Premier League season with a defeat.
Wenger has been heavily criticised by many for failing to adequately strengthen his Arsenal side in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have thus far only brought in Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding this summer.
However, Wenger has moved to reassure Arsenal fans that he and the club are working hard to bring in further signings before the close of the transfer market at the end of the month.
Asked if Sunday’s result increases the need to sign new players, Wenger told Sky Sports: “Yes, the first one we need is to get some players back. And of course I have said many times that we are working very hard still to get one or two players in.
“It’s always desperate. There is not much time left – it has to make sense and to be quality.”
Arsenal’s next game is a trip to defending champions Leicester City next weekend.
