Arsenal are set to submit a fresh offer for £40m-rated Lyon hitman Alezandre Lacazette as Arsene Wenger looks to finally sign a new top class striker this summer, according toSky Sports News.
The boss has been desperately trying to land a new front-man to compete with Olivier Giroud this coming season with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain all linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks.
However, Lacazette has emerged as the most likely target and Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulasrevealed last week that they’d rejected an opening offer worth £29.3m from Arsenal for the strikers signature.
Aulas insisted that Lacazette wasn’t for sale at any price, however, Sky Sports News claim that their sources indicate that Arsenal remain keen on signing the 25-year-old and we’re set to test the Ligue 1 clubs resolve with a fresh offer over the coming days.
The report says Lyon value Lacazette at £40m but it doesn’t state what our revised offer will be – although the Telegraph reported over the weekend that they believe a new £35m bid is in the offing.
We’ll have to wait and see whether that will be enough to persuade Lyon in to a deal but Lacazette would be an excellent signing if we were able to bring him to the Emirates this summer.
The French international has scored 54 goals in all competitions over the past two seasons so he’d clearly bring a much-needed goal threat to the side and offer something different to Giroud through the middle.
Let’s see how things develop over the coming days but I hope Wenger manages to find a breakthrough in negotiations this week as with Giroud set to miss the beginning of the season, Theo Walcott is currently our only senior option up front to face Liverpool in less than two weeks time.
