Arsene Wenger Breaks His Silence on Why Jamie Vardy Rejected Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has broken his silence on why Jamie Vardy rejected the Gunners to stay at Leicester in the summer, but couldn’t shed much light on the decision.

Following Vardy’s blistering form last season which saw the England international bag 24 goals, Wenger decided to match the buy-out clause in his contract, and looked set to bring him to the Emirates.
But after a prolonged period of thinking the move over, Vardy decided against it, and signed a new deal with Leicester.
Vardy’s decision was seen as something of an embarrassment for Arsenal and their manager, regardless of the fact that Leicester are currently Premier League champions.

But as the two teams prepare to meet for the first time this season this weekend, Wenger explained to the media that the modern-day transfer market can be a tricky subject to manoeuvre.
He said via the Mirror: “You have to respect decisions of people. That’s part of it. In every transfer market you have one or two with decisions to make and you have to respect them.
“Look at the whole market. Very little happens. It’s about the availability of players. Huge amounts can be spent on average players.

“On Vardy, you should ask him that question. I cannot answer for him.”
Arsenal are still in the market for a striker before the transfer window closes on August 31, with Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette linked to the north London club.
But what do you make of Wenger’s latest explanation?
